UMDC Sponsored Youth Exposure Trip To Underground Railroad Freedom Center

PROGRAMS

HOMEOWNERS

Lease Purchase Program. UMDC offers affordable single-family houses as a part of the lease-to-purchase program. This program offers 3-4 bedrooms and 1-1.5 bathroom housing options.

Side-yard Expansion Program: UMDC assists residents with obtaining vacant lots that are next door to their homes by creating a sustainable plan for revitalization

NEW MOTHERS

Expecting Moms: Provide layettes to expecting and new mothers. Layettes include pampers, blankets, bibs, and their first baby book.

SENIORS (Ages 60+)

Senior Repair Program. Union Miles offers minor home repairs for elderly homeowners in the Union Miles neighborhood. Typical repairs for this program include: stairs, cabinetry, grab bars, railings, tree limb trimmings, a/c repair, heating repair, gutters, ramps, and flooring. (Seasonal program)

Senior Lawn Care – We provide lawn care to seniors, who are physically unable to regularly cut their lawns and lack the financial means to pay for this service.

YOUTH (Ages 12-18)

Summer Festival – Youth Entrepreneur Booth Program: This opportunity gives young entrepreneurs in Union-Miles and Mt. Pleasant service areas, to network and sell their products to the community abroad during our Summer Festival.

Y.O.U.  Youth Opportunities Unlimited provides summer employees between the ages of 15 and 18 that assist with programming and activities within the service area throughout the summer season.

Youth Exposure Trip : Annual event that gives area youth the opportunity to explore new experiences and places.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

UMAG 8.0

Union Miles Agricultural & Green Landscaping (UMAG). This program is an 8 week course with a curriculum of landscape for life. It supports entrepreneurial development specifically for the landscaping market through technical training in all components of greening. Financial education is provided as well as business startup assistance after graduation. Once students graduate, they are able to bid for work through UMDC grass cutting service.

BUILDING FUTURES

Building Futures. This project was developed with the vision of a Greater Cleveland where one mistake does not permanently prevent an individual from a bright future for one’s self and family. The mission of Building Futures is to rehabilitate vacant, blighted houses throughout Ward 2 and train ex-offenders/returning citizens for employment and income producing opportunities in the fields of housing rehabilitation or property maintenance.

BUSINESS

Additional Services. UMDC provides technical assistance to local businesses and facilitates quarterly merchant meetings. UMDC is building a partnership to collaborate with the neighboring Mount Pleasant NOW Development Corporation to provide Business Assistance outside of the traditional UMDC service area, and maximize collaborative staff impacts.

Storefront Renovation. The Storefront Renovation Program helps neighborhood retail districts become more attractive, economically viable and diverse places to visit and shop by assisting in the design and funding of signage and the rehabilitation of traditional & eligible storefront buildings.

Encore Small-Business Mentoring Program. This is a program created for the purpose of small-business development. In the Encore Mentoring Program, older, small businesses mentor new small businesses and coach them on necessary practices to sustain their businesses.

Verizon Small-Business Digital Ready Program.   This program is created to better equip small-businesses with the knowledge to
be as effective as possible in this digital age.

AREA  DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

Investor Rehab Program. UMDC works to coordinate and link prospective owners and investors with rehab opportunities and programs such as Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Company (CCLRC) homes for sale.

Real Estate and Business Development. UMDC is pursuing new developments, each of which are designed to address larger, more systemic challenges across the neighborhood. Current projects involve veteran’s housing and service center, healthy food eateries, urban agriculture, workforce training facilities and new housing options.

Planning & Placemaking. UMDC is focused on clarifying neighborhood identity through a range of initiatives, including welcome signage and banners, murals, streetscape improvements, intentional land use, reforestation partnerships, and general quality of life improvements.
