Our mission is to “improve the quality of life within the Union Miles and Mt. Pleasant service areas through community engagement, housing, and economic development.” We accomplish our mission by providing a variety of programs and services. One of these aspects is community building through neighborhood beautification and community engagement. Utilizing a culturally relevant approach to produce creative products while creating deeper connections between people, place, and time.
We believe in connecting People, Opportunity and Development. To create a bright future…..
From the area’s youth to seniors, we believe in cultivating a sense of community that fosters unity and supports the enhancement of the UMDC and Mt. Pleasant neighborhoods.
We create opportunities through programs that promote growth and development for the people and businesses within
our community.
We are excited about the many projects and area improvement in the works in the service area. Explore our current and

In collaboration with the Rid-All Green Partnership, UMDC is excited to begin work on this new construction project utilizing vacant land on Harvard Avenue, east of East 93rd Street. The facility will provide affordable housing options for male and female veterans, many of whom have unmet housing needs in Southeast Cleveland. Rid-All Green Partnership will engage the veterans through interactive programming onsite, teaching best practices for successful urban agriculture – promoting healthy living and providing actionable stability for our veterans.
The Miles Garden Log Cabin & Herb Garden located at 12210 Miles Avenue is a designated City of Cleveland landmark that was built in 1908 by Antonin Zverina. It was originally built by Mr. Zverina, a local grocer and chicory dealer, as a playhouse for his five children. It soon became a place for family gatherings.
In 1963, the Zverina Family donated the Log Cabin and land to the Cleveland Board of Education. Herbert G. Meyer of the Horticulture Division of the school system designated it an herb garden. Landscape architect Henry Pree was the designer of the garden. Horticulture programs continue at the site today.
